Cambro is Umeå University's learning and collaboration platform.

The platform was launched in 2008/2009 primarily based on this report and has been continously developed since.

User support

Support is available through this support form or by phone: 090-786 63 00. To submit feedback or opinions to the maintenance/governance organisation for Cambro, email cambro@umu.se or talk to a representative in the Cambro reference group and ask them to make your voice heard at one of their meetings.

Users also have the option to search for answers in Cambros built-in Help. In the menu to your left is a link to "Help". There you can find written text and images that explain each tool and function in Cambro and even how-to guides for certain tasks. You can also click on the help-icon in the top-right corner of every tool in Cambro to access contextual help regarding that specific tool.

Faculty can contact Centre for Teaching and learning for education and workshops in using Cambro.

How Cambro is developed

Development takes place both globally and locally

Cambro is a localized version of Sakai which is based on open source. Many features in Cambro become more user-friendly with each upgrade in Sakai, and technical improvements. A typical year includes several smaller patches to Cambro and historically once per year a large upgrade to a newer version of Sakai has been implemented. The latest major upgrade took place june 11th 2015 when we upgraded from (2.9.3) to (10.4). Sakai 11 is currently in development and our goal is to have Cambro follow that progression. You can always see the current version of Cambro in the footer.

We also develop Cambro locally at Umeå university, improvements and customizations which we then give back to the global community.

Technical information

Cambro runs on parallel servers. A front-end server receives all page requests and redirects the user to the server that currently has the least load. A common database is used by all servers. A mirror of the database is available as backup. It is ITS that handles technical operations, development and maintenance and they have done so ever since Cambro first launched in 2008/2009.
